Showing my kids that it is not all 100% healthy choices and more about having the choice to choose for themselves. It’s NOT up to me to show them only one way to live. It’s up to me to guide them in a way that they are comfortable with their own choices and learn if they want from the consequences(good and bad). In our house it is not a “do what ever you want” kind of living. Discussion is huge in our family. Learning to see all sides and knowing the difference between, empathy and sympathy(thank you Brene Brown for this! Brene Brown on Empathy.) is important.
I know as a parent we want to do all we can to keep our kids safe and make sure they are making good choices and turn out a decent human being however, it is NOT our duty to control their life. As adults we know that experience IS vital in our life to find out what we like, what we don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t work for us. It goes the same way for our kids however we attempt to do it in a way where they are still mostly safe but have the freedom to really experience life without us, the parent, being in the way.
To find that way as a parent, YOU have to find YOUR way as an adult. Pushing past your own beliefs and programs on how things should GO or BE and truly let go of your ego that wants to control everything. It’s a challenge because of the way most of us were brought up however it is very rewarding to see our children really own their own choices in life when we let go of that control. As an adult, we can truly learn HOW TO BE, by watching our children BE as they are.
It is through years of conformity from the outside world where we lose track of who we are, what we are, our passions and our true beliefs. Beliefs OF COURSE come from taking in the data around us however MANY of our own beliefs that we have formed from that data are negated throughout the years (usually by the ones closest to us) and the by product of that is “being lost” as an adult.
I  know, I know all of this over sausage gravy and biscuits!! 😀 This is just a glimpse into the mind of Kelly on a DAILY BASIS. I truly don’t live a “stay on the surface” life nor do I want to. I’m not a “let’s talk about the weather so I can avoid what is truly going on inside” kinda girl. It’s OK if you are either or! That’s what is truly brilliant about life. EVERY SINGLE ONE of us is unique and one of a kind(even twins! they just MAY look alike)!
Every once in a while I have a moment when I wish I was just a “surface talk” kind of person, it’s easy on the outside(difficult on the inside) however, I KNOW for me, it truly is a challenge being both ways! To me, Life IS more than “just the weather”!
Oh by the way, here is the recipe to the Sausage Gravy and Biscuits! 😀 I used 1/2 heavy cream and 1/2 unsweetened cashew milk. TURNED OUT AMAZING!
